Abstract

AIM:
To investigate the professional satisfaction and well-being perceived
by Nurses working in Mental Health, focusing on the "stressors" to which
they are exposed on a daily basis: decision-making, nursing responsibility,
professional competence, teamwork and the leadership relationship.

METHODS:
Nurses working in psychiatric facilities and more precisely in
the Departments of Mental Health were recruited both at the hospital level,
in the Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Services and at the territorial
level in the Mental Health Centers, in Residential Structures (SRTR, SRSR)
and in semi-residential structures such as Day Centers. Socio-demographic
data were collected, such as: gender, age, marital status, educational
qualification, place of work and geographical area of service. The
“Copenhagen Questionnaire (COPSOQ): Questionnaire on psychosocial
working conditions, health and well-being” was used.

RESULTS:
A total of 58 mental health nurses participated in the study.
From the evaluation of the existing associations between the sociodemographic characteristics and the three dimensions of the Copenhagen
questionnaire, no linear association is evident, except for the levels of
satisfaction surveyed: the Nurses who work in the Mental Health Centers
(CSM) or in the Services Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment (SPDC),
recorded a significantly higher level of job satisfaction (p=.016), compared to
colleagues working in psychiatric rehabilitation facilities.

CONCLUSIONS:
The results obtained showed how Responsibility,
Competence and Profession affect the satisfaction of the nursing staff and
how much it influences these factors.
