This volume is a product of the PRIN 2017 LOC-GLOB. The local connectivity in an age of global intensification: infrastructural networks, production and trading areas in late-medieval Italy (1280-1500). Its aim is to explore the material and symbolic value of objects in the late Middle Ages through a systematic dialogue between history and archaeology. Through the analysis of inventories, lists of seized goods and material objects such as archaeological finds, the book shows how commodities were not only economic instruments, but also mirrors of the social and cultural dynamics of the time. With an interdisciplinary approach, the book interweaves documentary sources and archaeological data to reconstruct the significance of objects in everyday life and medieval trade. An investigation that reveals the relationship between goods, power and social identity in the past.
